RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOL

Royal College aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.
As part of this plan we are working towards recognition as a ‘Rights Respecting School’, an award given to schools on behalf of Unicef Africa.

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow and participate and fulfil their potential.

Royal College students will learn about their rights by putting them into practice every day. A Rights Respecting School models rights and respect in all its relationships.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

Royal College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

“Safeguarding is effective.

The leadership team has ensured that all safeguarding arrangements are robust and fit for purpose, and that records are suitably detailed. Pupils report that they feel safe in school. They say that staff are approachable if there is something that troubles them or that they need to share…. [S]taff and governors, ensure that the safety and well-being of pupils is a priority. Staff follow the school’s systems and processes carefully to support pupils’ welfare.

Staff and governors are clear about their safeguarding roles, and work effectively with parents and external agencies to safeguard pupils. Staff have received appropriate information and training covering all the statutory guidance.”
